癫痫发作可能以独立事件或复发形式（即癫痫）发作。

病因可能为结构性、遗传性、传染性、代谢性、免疫性或未知病因。

应通过识别癫痫类型的形式、临床特征和心电图特征尝试确定癫痫类型和癫痫综合征。
